Perkasie Olde Towne Association to Offer Free Child ID Event

As a service to the community, the Perkasie Olde Towne Association is offering parents and guardians an opportunity to create an electronic record of their children's identity. Senior citizens are also encouraged to participate.

The Child ID Event, sponsored by POTA and offered through the Lehigh Valley Community Resource Center, will be held Saturday, February 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Main Lobby of Pennridge High School.

POTA member Hope Fisher, who made arrangements for the event, said nearly 1 million children are reported missing in the United States each year. She encouraged parents and guardians to take the few minutes necessary to create a permanent record of their children's identity.

"A current electronic record of a child dramatically increases recovery time and could save your child's life," she said. "It's also a good idea for senior citizens to have their identifying information preserved as well."

The Child ID program provides the means to quickly get vital information to emergency responders. It includes:

  • all 10 fingerprints electronically scanned and saved in the universal PDF format;
  • the child's physical description;
  • a video recording;
  • a voice print;
  • a photograph of the child;
  • and any additional pertinent information that will be valuable in locating a missing child.

The digital photo and electronically scanned fingerprints provided to each parent or guardian are compatible with the Pennsylvania Amber Alert System.

All materials and information gathered are given to the parent or guardian. Only the permission slip is retained by LVCRC. No identification information is kept, copied, or given to any government authority, unless the parent or guardian chooses to do so.

The Lehigh Valley Community Resource Center, Inc., and its regional divisions, were formed to serve families located in Pennsylvania. Based in the Lehigh Valley, LVCRC and its affiliates provide Child ID services and compile and publish Resource Directories that contain information about developmental resources available to families with children in the communities it serves.

“Unsafe at Any Speed,” a local band with roots in the 60s folk music movement, will perform live. Featuring Bert Coffman of Perkasie on guitar, banjo, and mandolin, Pete Kellers of Bedminster on bass, and Dick and Helen Weed of Ewing, NJ on guitar, banjo, harmonica and percussion, “Unsafe’s” repertoire includes traditional arrangements as well as occasional medleys and parodies.

Their performances are characterized by crisp, multi-part harmonies and imaginative arrangements filled with humor and a touch of the unexpected. Unsafe At Any Speed is a favorite among fans who enjoy listening to a wide variety of all-time favorite folk and country songs done in a family-friendly, down-home style.
